Pre-Prep

Welcome to our Pre-Prep Department, a joyful, nurturing environment where every child feels valued. From Nursery to Year 2, we make learning exciting through small classes, strong relationships and a flexible, child centred approach. With our bright classrooms, outstanding facilities and 40 acres of outdoor space, we inspire curiosity and confidence, ensuring children thrive and make the most of every opportunity.

Innovation that sparks wonder

Children in Pre-Prep experience innovation every day, from the use of iPads in specialist computing lessons to integrated digital learning across the curriculum. Our STEM days bring the whole department together for hands on challenges that connect science, engineering, technology and maths through fun, imaginative activities. Author visits, theatre company workshops, musical theatre sessions and themed topic days, such as Medieval Day in Year 1 or the Great Fire of London experience in Year 2, bring learning vividly to life.

Opportunities that grow with your child

Small classes with dedicated teaching assistants ensure every child receives the tailored support and encouragement they need. Our strong Learning Support Hub provides specialist guidance where required, helping pupils develop confident learning habits. A vibrant co-curricular programme includes Scrummy’s rugby, LAMDA, chess taught by a renowned chess master, golf, WeKey music, ThinkTank, judo, Playball and our award winning Pre-Prep choir, unbeaten at the Woodley Festival of Music and Arts. Every year group also performs on a professional stage, building confidence from the earliest years, with additional opportunities for young musicians to shine in concerts.

A community enriched by every voice

Years 1 and 2 build on the strong foundations set in Nursery and Reception, developing both academic skills and independence within a rich and inclusive learning environment. Children enjoy a broad and balanced curriculum that includes handwriting, reading and phonics, numeracy, PE and games, music and movement, science, PSHE, swimming, humanities, Forest School, cookery, and art and design technology. With over 40 languages spoken across the wider Crosfields community, every child’s background and perspective enriches our school culture, helping them feel known, supported and encouraged to thrive.
