At Crosfields, we believe that leadership opportunities enrich every aspect of school life and play a transformative role in a child’s personal development. From their earliest years with us, pupils are encouraged to discover their strengths, build their confidence and contribute positively to their community. Leadership at Crosfields is not limited to formal positions; it is embedded in daily experiences that nurture responsibility, curiosity and teamwork. Many of our pupils tell us that stepping into a leadership role becomes a defining moment in their school journey, a chance to challenge themselves, develop their voice and feel genuinely valued within the school community.
Growing confident, capable leaders
Our wide range of leadership roles allows pupils to develop essential skills including public speaking, problem-solving, communication, organisation and creative thinking. We regularly see even the most reserved children flourish as they take on new responsibilities and discover their strengths.
Leadership roles give pupils purpose, build confidence, and support positive wellbeing. Opportunities include:
- Becoming a Prefect in different areas of school life
- Mentoring younger pupils and sharing subject expertise
- Joining one of our pupil-led committees such as digital, eco, wellbeing, arts, sports, academic or food
- Assisting teaching staff within specialist subjects
- Planning and organising events
- Leading assemblies and presenting to peers
- Welcoming families and guiding visitors around the school
These experiences are not only incredibly rewarding but also stand out on future applications.
The House System
Our House system is central to daily life at Crosfields, creating community, healthy competition and a strong sense of belonging.
Pre-Prep
In Pre-Prep, children join one of four Houses: Maple, Ash, Willow or Beech. These Houses create a fun, supportive environment where pupils earn rewards and take part in exciting team events such as Cross Country and Sports Day—much-loved occasions where families cheer them on.
Juniors
When pupils move into Juniors, they join one of our four main Houses: Lake, Marlborough, Park or School.
The Junior House system offers a wide programme of events and competitions, creative and sporting opportunities for every child, and a nurturing community where teamwork, resilience and leadership thrive. In Year 6, pupils can take on leadership roles such as House Captain, helping them build confidence while supporting and inspiring their peers.
Seniors (Years 7–11)
In Senior School, tutor groups align with one of four Houses: Corylus, Ilex, Quercus and Salix. Each House is led by a dedicated Head of House, ensuring consistent pastoral support and strong relationships between pupils, staff and families.
Pupils can apply for a variety of roles, House Captains, subject ambassadors, tutor reps, encouraging student voice and meaningful peer-to-peer guidance.
The House Activity Programme
Our House Activity Programme brings the school together through friendly competition and creative expression. Events range from House Music and House Debating to football tournaments and the much-anticipated annual Pancake Race.
Through these shared experiences, pupils strengthen teamwork, creativity, resilience and leadership, skills that last long beyond their school years.
