A broader educational experience at Crosfields

From the moment your child joins us, we nurture their curiosity and help them to develop a thirst for learning.

This begins in Nursery and builds as children progress through the school and develop mentally and physically, in our care.  Specialist teachers transform educational experiences starting from Nursery and increasing as they progress through their journey. We invest in delivering an extended curriculum, exploring creativity, developing life skills and improving employability. To see how we take the curriculum outside of the classroom read more about our enrichment programme or come and experience it for yourself at one of our open events.

Academic attainment is in advance of that expected at the relevant levels of age and stage of development.

Encouraging creativity, imagination and analytical skills

We are devoted to delivering a wide range of options within the curriculum, so every child is stretched and challenged and can identify and build on their strengths to gain confidence. This is because a Crosfields education recognises the importance of preparing pupil for life beyond school. We work on fundamental skills such as time management and communication, all with the blanket of our outstanding pastoral care team.

Specialist subjects delivered by experts

Our subject specialist teachers empower every child to reach their full potential. This is offered from their first moments here at Nursery through to our GCSE provision. Here’s a flavour of what Crosfields can offer your child:

English

Providing opportunities for pupils to explore their love of reading or develop a passion for creative writing. With external competitions, chances to win house points we make it accessible to all. Starting in Year 5, our pupils are taught by specialist English teachers to work on the foundation of their primary learning.

Maths

Pupils will learn the language of Maths as a tool for describing and making sense of the world around them, whilst also gaining an appreciation of the subject as a creative and rewarding discipline in its own right. Extra support is always readily available at our weekly Maths Clinics and there are opportunities to take part in a range of mathematically-themed enrichment activities and national/in-school competitions.

Science

Through interactive sessions in our new science labs, there is a chance to get ‘hands on’ and learn about the fundamentals of the world around them, developing natural curiosity and allowing pupils to discover the answers to key questions.

Languages (MFL)

We encourage children to develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity in languages, providing a wider world perspective.

Drama

Developing skills in performance/public speaking, exploring the lives of others to gain empathy, working as part of a team – we offer classes, workshops and the chance to take part in shows (front or backstage).

PSHE

As part of our commitment to ensuring that all our students are equipped to live safe and healthy lifestyles, all pupils at Crosfields will be taught PSHE (personal, social and health education). This will be taught once a week in their form groups.

Pupils will also be taught Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) and the purpose of this is to provide knowledge and understanding of how the human body changes during puberty and the processes of human reproduction, within the context of relationships based on love and respect. It should develop understanding and attitudes which will help pupils to form relationships in a responsible and healthy manner. We believe that if young people can start their transition into adulthood with good information and knowledge of what is happening to them, they will be more likely to grow into confident and healthy adults who are able to make positive choices.

All teaching materials are appropriate to the age and emotional maturity of the pupils concerned and teachers will present both PSHE and RSE in an objective, balanced and sensitive manner.

The key aims of PSHE and RSE at Crosfields are to:

  1. Provide accurate and relevant information about the physical and emotional changes that children and young people will experience through their formative years and into adulthood.
  2. Establish an awareness of the importance of stable family life and relationships, including the responsibilities of parenthood and marriage.
  3. Foster self-awareness and self-esteem.
  4. Develop a sense of responsibility and respect for themselves and others.
  5. To equip young people with the knowledge to look after their physical and emotional health.
