Benefits of attending a pre-school nursery

Attending a pre-school nursery offers numerous benefits for young children. It provides a structured environment where a routine is implemented into their daily lives. Giving children structure to their day helps children to gain a sense of security and independence. This supports and provides a strong foundation in preparing children for the transitional to Reception.

From a young age, children follow a curriculum. Essentially their learning is achieved through the application of Development Matters – Non-statutory curriculum guidance for the early years foundation stage which is followed and implemented by experienced teaching professionals, who introduce children to basic academic concepts through play-based learning. Children are also exposed to Early Literacy and Numeracy Skills. Children are introduced to basic concepts of letters, numbers, shapes, and colours to lay the foundation for future academic learning and to foster cognitive development, a love for learning and, most of all, a concrete foundation to become their best self and reach their full potential.

Alongside this, at Little Acorns Nursery at Crosfields School, there is a focus on the child’s individual needs and interests. It is important for every Early Years educator to recognise that every child is unique and has their own strengths and abilities which in turn provide children the tools they need to flourish in all areas of development.

Enhancing Children’s Social Skills: Through attending a nursery setting, children develop their social skills by learning to interact with peers and adults, sharing, taking turns, and resolving conflicts which is laying the foundation for healthy, long-term positive relationships.

Nurturing Emotional Skills: Our nursery provides a safe and nurturing environment where children can manage their own emotions, develop empathy, as well as building self-confidence. Children are also supported in having a deeper understanding of their feelings, along with better self-awareness, self-regulation, and resilience.

Language Development Skills: At Little Acorns Nursery, children actively engage in a variety of activities to promote and develop their language skills. Our Early Years practitioners model correct use of language and vocabulary, further encouraging children to expand their own vocabulary. As a result, this improves and develops their communication, listening and comprehension skills.

Accelerated Physical Development: Young children engage in more physical activities at nursery than they might at home; for example, running in the playground or learning skills such as skipping or hopping. At Little Acorns, children are immersed in a variety of activities such as Forest School, swimming, dance and PE, which are all taught by specialist teachers. Through these opportunities, children are also able to develop their gross motor skills which supports their coordination, balance and strength.

Overall, pre-school nurseries provide a fundamental foundation for children’s educational journey. Here, at Little Acorns Nursery, we are proud of our drive, determination and ambition in providing a safe, positive, nurturing environment to support your child’s emotional, social, and intellectual growth in the lead up to their transition to Reception.
